Importing templates from Equinux Mail Designer

The following instructions apply to Mail Designer and Mail Designer Pro.

Equinux Mail Designer is a great way to design custom templates for use with Direct Mail (and Apple Mail).

You'll need a plugin for Mail Designer to make it work with Direct Mail. In most cases, Direct Mail will automatically detect Mail Designer and prompt you to install the plugin. If you need to install it manually, here's how:

  1. Make sure both Mail Designer and Direct Mail are installed on your computer.
  2. Open Direct Mail
  3. Choose Help > Install Mail Designer Plugin from the menu bar. If you do not see this option, it means the Mail Designer plugin is already installed.

Once the plugin is installed, you can export your templates from Mail Designer at any time by choosing Share > Direct Mail Template from the Mail Designer menu bar.

If exporting does not seem to work

In some cases, you may find that choosing Share > Direct Mail from the menu bar in Mail Designer (or Mail Designer Pro) doesn't seem to do anything. Or you may see an error message. Please follow these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Make sure the Direct Mail application is located inside the /Applications folder on your Mac (not ~/Applications, ~/Downloads, or any other folder). Apple introduced new restrictions in macOS 10.12 that prevent Mail Designer from talking to other apps (like Direct Mail) unless those apps are inside the /Applications folder. If you need to move Direct Mail, please make sure and quit Direct Mail before doing so.
  2. Restart your Mac and try exporting from Mail Designer again.
