This help article is for an old version of Direct Mail.
Message headers contain a variety of information about an email, including information that can help our abuse department track down and eliminate spammers. Here's how to view the message headers for any email you receive.
AOL
- Sign in to your AOL account.
- Open the message you'd like to view headers for.
- In the 'Action' menu, select View Message Source.
Apple Mail
- Open Apple Mail.
- Click on the message you'd like to view headers for.
- Choose View > Message > All Headers from the menu bar.
Gmail
- Sign in to Gmail
- Open the message you'd like to view headers for.
- Click the down arrow next to Reply, at the top of the message pane.
- Select Show Original.
Outlook.com/Hotmail
- Sign in to your Outlook/Hotmail account.
- Select the message you’d like to view headers for.
- Click the “…” menu at the top-right corner of the message
- Choose “View > View message source” from the menu
Outlook (Mac)
- Open Outlook.
- Hold down the control key on your keyboard while clicking the message.
- Choose View Source
Outlook (PC)
- Open Outlook.
- Open the message by double-clicking on it.
- Click on the File tab.
- Click on Properties.
- In the Properties dialog box, the headers appear in the Internet headers box.
Thunderbird
- Open Thunderbird.
- Click on the message you'd like to view headers for.
- Choose View > Message Source from the menu bar.
Yahoo! Mail
- Sign in to your Yahoo! Mail account.
- Select the message you'd like to view headers for.
- Click the “…” dropdown from the top of the message and select “View raw message".
